Preserving Our Maritime History
After a delightful 2025 season, the Old and New Presque Isle Lighthouses and the 1905 Keeper’s House are now closed for the winter. Please remember that, while the buildings are closed, the New Lighthouse Park is open year round. Weather permitting, you can still enjoy the trails and the opportunity to witness our stunning sunrises and sunsets over the waters of Lake Huron and North Bay. For your convenience, there is a porta-potty next to Garrity Hall at the New Lighthouse Park and a vault toilet in the DNR parking lot immediately north of the Harbor for visitors to the Old Lighthouse. We do ask that you keep our parks clean by taking all trash and debris with you when you leave.
We look forward to seeing you in 2026- opening day will be Friday, May 22. Once the 2026 hours are finalized, they will be posted here.
Discover a truly unique gift that celebrates the historical beauty of Presque Isle and contributes to its future.
Artist Janet Hainstock-Straley—the great-great-granddaughter of Patrick Garrity, Sr., who served as the lightkeeper of both the Old and New Presque Isle Lighthouses—presents a captivating "portrait" of the 1870 Lighthouse in her work, "Out of the Woods 1870–New Light Presque Isle." These are limited-edition, signed, and numbered Giclée prints, renowned for their archival quality, lightfastness, and 100+ year color retention.
By purchasing one of the 3 available sizes, you directly support the PI Lighthouses Restoration Fund, as Janet generously donates a percentage of every sale.
Janet Straley’s print, Out of the Woods 1870–New Light Presque Isle, is available in three sizes:
6”x12” = $40.00
10”x20” = $60.00
15”x30” = $90.00
These are limited edition prints, signed and numbered by the artist. Only 100 prints were made for the edition. Shipping is added, although local delivery (Alpena & Grand Lake area) is free.

For lighthouse lovers, Presque Isle is a must-see stop in Northern Michigan. Our 1870 Lighthouse is the tallest light on the Great Lakes that the public may climb. Our 1840 Lighthouse is one of the oldest lights on the Great Lakes. And our 1870 Harbor Range Light honors the small, dedicated group of women who were appointed keepers in a profession dominated by men. The beautifully restored 1905 Keeper’s House serves as a museum highlighting local history and the lives of lighthouse keepers and their families.
